Just listening to this interview today, and Helice’s comment about Balthus struck a chord. I really like his work too. And I am a woman and a feminist. This outcry about him seems to be a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. A painting that can address taboos, elicit emotions, address the nascent sexuality and innocence co-existing in a subject; to me that’s a good painting.
