Hi John and John :), thank you for this very interesting episode, lots of ‘things’ to think about!
Thanks Pat.
I enjoyed listening to the podcast while in the studio. Respectfully I have to say that the term “Disrupted Realism” comes off as a bit of an oxymoron, perhaps the remnant response to the exessive influence of subjectivity stemming from modernism.
Art has always been a compromise, a concession between the polarities of realty and abstraction, empirical reality and inner vision. The best realism is that which is most abstract in its inner form and the best abstraction is that which has an undelying empirical structure. Neither disrupt but rather confirm, great art wether realist or abstract, do not “disrupt” (only so from the sociological viewpoint) pictorially great art always aims at synthesis, bringing order to the chaos within and without.
Thanks Edgar.
Hi Edgar,
I hear what you are saying and appreciate your elaboration.
I hope that you get a chance to see the book if you haven’t already.
